Even after washing the smell from this fabric is permeating our entire living area. Not sure what is going on but we will try washing again I guess. It kind of smells like chlorine.. we bought this as a travel seat for our toddler and will update review once we have used it. If we can ever get this smell to go away!I definitely regret this purchase. We were looking for a secondary car seat to use for travel, particularly one that is flame retardant-free, and this Maxi Cosi Romi car seat seemed to fit the bill. There aren't too many FR-free options out there! However, you definitely get what you pay for - the seat seams comfortable enough, with a thickly padded cover, but it's clearly a cheap seat when you're trying to install it, and the plastic frame is easily bendable with your hands, making me question the safety of it (even though I know all car seats have to pass strict safety standards in the US).I would have been fine with all that for the price, except that this seat smells H O R R I B L E. It comes unwrapped, completely loose in the shipping box with no other packaging, and as soon as I opened it, the entire room began to fill with a terrible chemical smell. I let it air out in the hot sun for two entire days, but the smell didn't dissipate at all. I debated whether to return it, but thought perhaps washing the cover would help a bit. Well, I can confirm that it did not. Now it just smells like that horrible chemical smell + baby laundry detergent. It gives us a headache being around it, and I dread to think what it would be doing to my baby if he was sitting in it in the car. It honestly doesn't seem safe to be inhaling the fumes coming off of this thing.0/10 recommend.The Cosco Scenera Next (CSN) is what this seat is. It’s a decent lightweight, cheap seat ($50 new, $60 new for the deluxe version, $55 for Disney). I’ve owned two. This is the same exact seat for over double the price. Do yourself a favor and buy the Cosco version. For the picture: top left is the original CSN, top right is the CSN deluxe, bottom left is the CSN Disney version, bottom right is the Maxi Cosi Romi. If you’re wanting this because it’s flame retardant free, I encourage you to google “CSFTL flame retardants” and read the article.
